Colonel Harland Sanders was the founder of KFC. He actively began franchising his chicken business at the age of 65. KFC is now one of the largest quick service restaurant chains in the world. Below is a timeline outlining some major events in the life of the Colonel.

1890	On the 9 September, born in Henryville, Indiana
1900	Aged 10 first job working on a farm $2 a month
1906	At aged 16 - become a soldier
1932	He bought a motel chain in Corbin, where he sold tyres and operated service stations. This is were he developed the famous 11 herbs and spices
1935	Governor of Kentucky made him the Kentucky Colonel
1950	A new interstate highway was planned to bypass the town of Corbin, which would mean the end of his business
1952	He travelled by car across the country selling chicken. Each chicken was sold for a nickel on a handshake agreement
1964	There were 600 franchised outlets of the Colonels Chicken in the United States and Canada. The Colonel sold his interest in the US Company for $2million to a group of investors
1979	The Colonel Sanders was the second most recognizable celebrity in the world. He also was the official public spokesman for KFC
1980	The Colonel Sanders died at the age of 90. In his lifetime, he travelled an average of over 250,000 miles a year visiting KFC stores
